I've done this too many times now...

so the whole "cocktail" issue... it was... an issue to say the least...

I called my MD and he did say to try and only do one & not both if I could... and only do both at bedtime if I was really hurting. He (along with many of you) advised that drinking alcohol could also put me in a bad spot.

I listened... I heard... I understood... but for some reason I figured if I didn't take any of the pills on Saturday, that I'd be OK having a cocktail (of the normal alcohol type) on Saturday night. My roommate graduated from college yesterday, and we had the whole neighborhood and his family over for a huge BBQ/Party type thing. Lots of fun, lots of people, lots of decorations... lots of fun in general.

I whipped up a batch of German Chocolate Cake Shots and I had 2 of those over the course of 4 hours... no bad reaction, so I thought I was good! I did stub my toe really bad, but that was on a little part of the concrete that was raised, I hardly think the alcohol was a factor...

After the party, a group of us all took 2 cab's over to our favorite watering hole to carry on with the celebration... and the bartender made my Vanilla Vodka/Diet... still good.. or so I thought... after just my first drink I decided I was "done" and started to walk home... it's about then that I forget the rest of the night.

When I woke up this morning, my face was washed and I was wearing pajamas, so I know I wasn't so inebriated that I needed to just pass out.... but I went to move and my knee was really tender. I took a look at the knee & it was scraped up a bit... as were my toes.. and the palm of my hand. OK... no biggie... I tripped and skinned my knee, right?

I got up and made some breakfast, and went over to MMM's house & picked her up so we could go get some coffee... I stopped to get gas and she took one look at my leg and advised that I needed to have a Dr. look at it. I tried to tell her she was over-reacting... swelling would go down with some ice and the bruising wasn't nearly as bad as it would be in a few days... but ER is right across the street from my house so she finally convinced me to just have it looked at...

Emergency room on a Sunday morning... Memorial Day Weekend... lemme tell you... I felt like we were written into a scene of ER! There was bloody eyes, a few car accidents, 2 different psych deals... one of them was a 9 year old who was just nutz, the Police had to bring him in and when his parents showed up... well... it was just heart breaking to watch. The ER was so full I had a gurney in the hallway, and my goodness was it entertaining to watch all the goings on. I may always ask for the hallway treatment in the future... makes the 4 hour wait entertaining!

End result... I have a broken patella... vertical fracture... not as severe as horizontal or a total shatter, so hopefully won't need surgery. I'll need to see an orthopedic Dr. sometime next week to confirm that, I may end up in a cast for 6 weeks or possibly just in the knee immobilizer that I'm in now... so sexy!

Yowch. And like you said, at least it wasn't a shatter. I did that. Only have half a kneecap on my right leg, but it works just fine...considering.

Take it easy and let it heal. That is all you can do really.

There is definitely entertainment value in ERs.

Dude...I am sorry to hear about your kneecap. That sucks.
Rest up...and you can prop yourself up at the beach just as easily as you can on the couch...
Hope it gets better soon!
