not so casual friday

Our company doesn't have "dress down/casual" Fridays... we used to have random days during the week where we could wear denim & athletic shoes, but it depended on if there was a visitor or tour going on.... and every once & a while they'd give us a whole week... like if we filled up a food donation bin or the like.

Production plummets when we have dress down days, people take full on advantage of it and try to come in wearing torn mini skirts and athletic jerseys... I swear you give these fools I work with an inch and they try to take a mile... slumped down in their chairs making barely a third of the productivity that we accomplish on a normal day.

So it's no surprise that it's been over 2 months since we've had one of these days... and I'm soooooo tired of wearing "business casual"... one of the huge benefits of all my previous jobs has been the ability to wear whatever the heck I want... this job... not so much.

More than once, I've tried to bargain with the Executive Staff... I've told them that I think... and I really do think... that if we allowed our employees to wear a logo top (polo, button up, cardigan), jeans & nice shoes (not athletic shoes or open toed shoes)... that productivity would remain the same as when we have to wear business casual... shoot... the people that I work with don't even DO business casual... 50% of the females wear "club gear" (cami's, sequins, glitter, stuff so tight they look like the Michelin man even if they are a size 4) and the other half look like they paraded out of the JCPenney catalog... but not necessarily the "business casual" department.

Today, one of the girls is wearing, and I kid you not, a black muscle t-shirt over a grey wife-beater over a white wife-beater, yoga pants, and ugg boots. Tell me that a nice simple polo shirt with a clean pressed pair of levi's and a pair of Doc's would not look more professional than that????

I would have taken a picture of her with my phone! Yeah, I think the jeans and the logo shirt would look much better than that get up.

We get a couple of months during the winter to dress casually b/c of our United Way campaign ... and it amazes me what people will wear. Granted, when it's 15 degrees out, it's wonderful to wear jeans to work ... but I always wear a nice top or sweater ... not something that looks like I could have worn to bed. I feel for you though ... two months of dressing up is two months too long!
